Abstract
This study aims to examine the impact of social networks on the formation of cultural identity among Iranian adolescent girls aged 13 to 18, using a qualitative case study approach. Purposeful non-probability sampling was employed, and data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 20 active adolescent social network users. The interview process continued until theoretical saturation was reached. The findings are presented in four main categories: modeling after cultural content, conflict between traditional and modern identity, redefining cultural values, and the role of media literacy. Eight subcategories emerged: influence of cultural influencers, imitation of Western lifestyle, preservation of indigenous identity elements, critical attitude toward cultural content, identity integration, virtual cultural consumption, dependency on social validation, and the need for media literacy education. The results indicate that social networks act as a dual platform, simultaneously promoting global values and providing an opportunity to reconstruct cultural identity in line with contemporary conditions. This study highlights the necessity of planning to enhance media literacy and producing cultural content tailored to adolescents' needs.
