Artificial Intelligence and the World of Journalism

In the present era, artificial intelligence is transforming the fabric of human societies at a breathtaking pace, and the field of journalism has not remained untouched by this wave of change. The entry of intelligent algorithms into the news production and distribution cycle has opened up new dimensions of opportunities and challenges for media professionals. A precise examination of these dimensions is crucial for the future of the journalism profession. Artificial intelligence holds immense potential for enhancing the efficiency, accuracy, and scope of journalism. One of its most prominent advantages is data analysis capability. Machine learning algorithms can process vast amounts of information—from financial reports to social and statistical data—in a fraction of a second, uncovering patterns, trends, and hidden dimensions that may escape the human eye. In terms of content production, AI is capable of writing standard news reports, summarizing long texts, and even generating preliminary scripts for visual reports. AI-based tools can automatically generate breaking news based on live event data, thereby reducing the time required for rapid event coverage. Content personalization is another compelling capability of AI in the media and journalism industry. By analyzing audience behavior and interests, AI can recommend news content tailored to each individual's needs, which significantly contributes to increasing audience engagement and loyalty. Furthermore, AI tools play an effective role in fact-checking news and identifying disinformation. Alongside numerous and diverse opportunities, artificial intelligence also presents serious challenges that must not be overlooked. One of the greatest concerns is the proliferation of fabricated, false, and misleading information. The ability of AI platforms to generate realistic text and images facilitates the large-scale production and dissemination of fake news, propaganda, and manipulated content, which can severely undermine public trust in the media. Job displacement is another primary concern for journalists. AI's capabilities in automated, low-cost content production are affecting many news and analytical tasks and may lead to reduced demand for human labor in certain sectors. This highlights the necessity of training and upgrading journalists' skills for roles that require human thinking and evaluation, creativity, critical approaches, and professional ethics. On the other hand, algorithmic bias is another vital and significant issue in this domain. If the data used to train AI models themselves contain racial, gender, or social biases, their outputs will also reflect these biases and can perpetuate discrimination and inequality. Among other complex challenges of AI in journalism are the ethical issues surrounding ownership of AI-generated content, transparency in the use of these tools, and the protection of audience privacy. These issues require clear and transparent legal and ethical frameworks. In conclusion, while artificial intelligence is a powerful tool that can open new horizons in journalism and the media industry, like any transformative technology, it can act as a double-edged sword. The path forward may involve an intelligent combination of utilizing AI tools' capabilities to increase productivity and deepen news reporting, alongside maintaining rigorous human oversight, commitment to ethical principles, and efforts to address biases. It seems the future media industry will not only be an arena for competing with machines but also a field for creative human-machine collaboration. This is contingent upon the implementation of correct, intelligent, and responsible policymaking at all related levels, and upon taking scientific and practical actions, formulating necessary laws and regulations, and providing required training for media professionals—all before this technology completely dominates every dimension of our professional lives. In the end, it can be said that artificial intelligence is an extraordinarily powerful tool that can help journalists perform better and more effectively, with emphasis on this crucial goal: "Artificial intelligence must serve truth and public awareness, not the other way around."

A Collaborative Model between Sociologists and Journalists in Analyzing and Managing Social Issues: From Scientific Analysis to Media Narration

Social issues represent some of the most pressing challenges of contemporary societies, engaging the attention of citizens, civil institutions, and intellectual elites alike. Within this context, sociologists and journalists, as two reference groups, play a pivotal role in the processes of identifying, analyzing, and representing social problems. The aim of this study is to comparatively examine the roles and functions of these two groups in confronting social issues and the crises arising from them. Employing a qualitative design that combines a systematic literature review with a two-round Delphi technique, the perspectives of 15 experts in sociology and journalism were collected and analyzed. Findings indicate that sociologists, through scientific methods and structural analysis, and journalists, through analytical narration and media framing, can act complementarily in the processes of sensitization, interpretation, and problem-solving. Furthermore, synergy between these two groups -through joint working groups, co-production of analytical content, and interdisciplinary training- can significantly contribute to the enhancement of social capital and the advancement of sustainable development.

The purpose of this study is to examine the role of virtual media in increasing legal awareness with the aim of reducing judicial cases and preventing crime. The study also aims to identify the relationship between trust in virtual media, ease of access, type of usage, consumption style (following interests), targeted advertising, and education in virtual media, and their impact on legal awareness and crime prevention. The research method is descriptive-survey, and the data were collected through fieldwork. This study is considered applied in terms of its objective. The statistical population includes approximately 150 journalists active in legal, judicial, and social fields in mass media. Data analysis was performed using statistical tests in SPSS software, with inferential statistics. The results indicate a significant relationship between trust in virtual media, ease of access, type of usage, consumption style (following interests), targeted advertising, education in virtual media, and legal awareness. These factors can contribute to the reduction of judicial cases. It is recommended that institutions involved in legal and judicial matters utilize the potential of virtual media for public education on laws to reduce crime. Additionally, creating simple, practical, and engaging legal content can play a significant role in enhancing awareness and reducing violations and crimes. Collaboration between media outlets and judicial organizations to design targeted information campaigns, build trust with users, and promote proper media consumption habits are other effective strategies in this area.

Live Streaming as an Interactive Medium: Examining the Role of Media Characteristics on Purchase Intention and Non- Monetary Engagement

Live streaming has emerged as a novel interactive medium, enabling direct and real-time communication with audiences. This study aims to investigate the impact of live streaming's media characteristics—including streamer attributes, product features, and platform capabilities—on users' purchase intention and non-verbal interaction. The role of these characteristics in shaping key mediating variables of trust, impulsivity, and immersion was also evaluated. In terms of purpose, the study is applied, and regarding data collection, it employs a descriptive-survey method. The statistical population consisted of users born in the 2000s (Iranian decade 1380s) who had experience watching or participating in online sales live streams. A sample of 384 individuals was selected using convenience sampling, and data were collected via a standardized questionnaire. The reliability and validity of the instrument were confirmed through statistical techniques, including Cronbach's alpha, and convergent and discriminant validity. The data were analyzed using SmartPLS software. The findings revealed that streamer attributes and platform characteristics play a significant role in fostering user trust, impulsivity, and immersion. However, the relationship between product features and immersion was not significant. It was also found that immersion alone does not guarantee purchase intention. These results indicate that creating an engaging and immersive live stream experience does not necessarily lead to a purchase decision unless accompanied by other critical factors such as trust or immediate excitement. By focusing on the new generation of digital users, this study provides valuable insights for media designers and communication professionals to optimize live streaming strategies and enhance audience engagement and conversion.
