Abstract
The purpose of this article is to investigate the effect of rumors on public opinion. Rumor is a social phenomenon that is common in all human societies due to its connection with humans, and it seems impossible to imagine a society without rumors. The phenomenon of rumors is more or less widespread in all societies, but in a society where people are faced with the poverty of quick, correct and accurate information, and among groups and populations that are simple-minded and gullible. Receiving and transmitting rumors is more common. The complexity of life, the connection of economic, livelihood and cultural fields, along with the value of information in today's world, which is the basis for decision-making and optimal action, increases the spread of rumors and its desirability. In this regard, rumor, public opinion and the effect of rumor on public opinion were theoretically examined and it was found that rumor has an undeniable effect on public opinion and a decisive role on the morale of a nation's thoughts and causes stimulation and thus responds to the needs of a society, which It is necessary to prevent the effect of rumors due to the necessity of informing through mass media and information sources.
